Upgraded Security for Royal Holloway, University of London

30 Jul 2007

Data Integration is pleased to have been chosen to implement a new resilient border firewall and routing solution for Royal Holloway based on Juniper NetScreen Integrated Service Gateways (ISGs).

Royal Holloway needed the solution because the College decided to move to a resilient architecture when upgraded its JANET link to satisfy growing demand on bandwidth. The research groups at Royal Holloway require a minimum of 300 Mbps connection into their research grid, so Royal Holloway decided to add a new 1 Gbps link and retain its old 100 Mbps link as backup. Royal Holloway selected Data Integration over a number of other suppliers in the competitive tender because DI identified that their requirements could be met using the Juniper ISG to perform both the firewall and the routing task, rather than using separate firewalls and routers. This made our solution simpler to manage and more cost-effective to deploy.

Data Integration has carried out full staging of the solution, designed the routing and firewall policies and project managed the roll out.

Dr Nigel Rata, Network Manager at Royal Holloway, said "It is such a pleasure working with Data Integration; they are very knowledgeable and very helpful."

Royal Holloway, part of the University of London, is based on a 135 acre campus in Surrey with more than 7,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
